Published Annually, James Sutherland, Compiler We respectfully present the citizens of Hamilton with a New Edition of the Directory of the City of Hamilton and County of Went, worth, being the third compiled by Mr. James Sutherland. In preparing this edition, the compiler has been careful to meet, as far as possible, the wants of all classes of the community, and, with this end in view, in addition to the usual Alphabetical List of the inhabitants, he has given a full and faithful Business Directory, - an introductory article, giving a sketch of the Great Western Railway Works, the officers of the several societies and institutions in the city, names of farmers in the county of Wentworth, the names of residents in the towns and villages, brief notices of manufacturing establishments, and historical sketches of the churches of all denominations here the whole accompanied by maps of the city and county, autographed expressly for this edition of the Directory. In referring to the Alphabetical List, it will be seen the city is gaining in population, and, for the information of the reader, a summary of names of householders in the Directory is given, which will, when compared with the number published last year, show an addition of about three hundred and fifty, or, presuming each householder to represent five individuals, an increase in population of near eighteen hundred.
