Sweet Spot

Angebote / Angebote:

Sweet Spot is a recipe for improving mental health and well-being. This book resonates a message of hope and optimism for individuals who have struggled with emotional distress, relationship conflict, addictions and self-defeating behaviours. Emotional and behavioral health, not unlike physical health, exist on a continuum. All of us, whether suffering from a debilitating mental illness or simply coping with daily challenges of work, education and relationships, seek strategies to better cope and optimize our well-being and overall functioning. Finding your Sweet Spot has helpful insights and strategies for all of us. This book is grounded in an understanding of neuroscience and evidence-based psychotherapies. As an example, mindfulness strategies to quiet a noisy brain or cognitive strategies to focus thoughts and choose happiness are reviewed in a manner that educates, invites and encourages the pursuit of such healthy initiatives." David Koczerginski MD FRCPC Chief of Psychiatry and Medical Director Mental Health and Addictions The idea for this book came to mind after years of noticing patterns while working with individuals, couples and families who struggled in their relationships, parenting, employment and mental health. There were those who appeared to be moving around in circles trying to be the best they could be but not getting anywhere. Then there were others who attempted to move one step forward yet in the process fell back two steps. There were many still who felt like they were stuck in the "mud" of life and could not get out. This group found themselves not moving very much in any direction. With all the psychoeducation, psychotherapy, support counselling, pastoral counselling, government assistance and community involvement programs, there are many resources invested and many people bending over backwards to support those struggling. However, it appears that the system is a revolving door. Patients come in, are "treated, " discharged, and then come in again. Despite all the help, people are still finding it difficult to move ahead in their lives. It is apparent that we are not dealing with the root causes of the issues and are only putting on bandages. The core of every issue stems from how we think and what conclusion we allow our minds to draw about life's stimuli. The problems we often encounter are also closely tied to what things occupy our minds that take our focus. We have noticed that after three to six months in a long-term relationship, particularly for those who are married, the brain loses its focus on the relationship. Couples become so busy trying to develop their future together, looking into planning a family, working to shape their career paths, pursuing education and attending to financial commitments that they drift away from their true love. The same applies to parenting. We are very careful about everything that revolves around our first child. When the second or third-or like us, the seventh-comes along, you are far less attentive to the little things. All the ingredients for creating a healthy and happy life come from finding the sweet spot in your brain.
