Once he spent every cent he had in sending a cablegram to America to thank an orchestra conductor for playing his piano concerto. His friends urged him to be more thrifty, but Tchaikovsky paid no attention. What he really needed was a kind fairy to give him enough money so that he could spend all his time composing. And this is exactly what happened! One day a rich lady heard about his troubles, and decided she would be the kind fairy.
