Taking Down Goliath was written with the express intention of providing the body of Christ with a means of dealing with mental disorders. It was produced from a background of decades invested in ministering to the roots of these disorders, and predictably and consistently seeing them resolved through the work of the Holy Spirit. The publication proposes that God has the answers, and is desiring that people everywhere receive the freedom that He has promised and made available.
You can't send an army into battle without the equipment and resources needed to confront their foe. Many Christians would like to help with the harvest, but simply have never been properly equipped to be bringers of the good news in its entirety.
Perhaps we can offer a story from the natural world to illustrate the need of preparation for taking ground from your enemies. There was a time of training, equipping, and putting together of resources prior to the D-day landing in World War 2. For the Church to fulfill her purpose and be all that she can be, there needs to be provision of equipping and preparation from the Kingdom of God to fuel the push to present a full and complete Gospel. Those planning the D-day landing knew that on June the 6th 1944, when the troops endeavoured to take ground, they would need backing and supply from beyond the battle front. I love the story of Operation Pluto. The allies had calculated that 60% of the needs of their armies as they began the invasion would be fuel. It was going to be a very important and needed resource for their success. As an example, a Sherman tank would travel only about 250 metres on a litre of fuel....4 litres to the kilometre. (.7 miles on a gallon) Operation Pluto was a series of pipelines laid under the sea from Britain to Normandie.
Altogether there were 17 lines, which totalled more than 800 kilometres of pipeline which were laid. They were able to deliver 4.5 million litres a day, and contributed a massive 180 million litres of fuel to the war effort. The existence and installation of these channels or conduits of resource, were a critical factor for success and victory. The point that I'm trying make is that the supply came from another place, and was delivered onto the battle front where it was most needed. These conduits joined both the place of resource, and the place of need.
For the Church, we could say that there is an unlimited supply of provision from the Kingdom of God. The mission is to get it from heaven to earth where it is needed in a practical way. It must be delivered to the battlefront through supply lines that are connected to both heaven and earth. That's us! Our knowledge of the ways of God in ministry are those access points for supply. Knowing how to release Gods provisions to mankind makes us the delivery mechanism that He has purposed and intended all along.
This publication is directed to helping us become a line of supply, addressing one of those areas of human need. Namely, we're presenting how to bring God's provision to the increasing problem of dealing with Mental disorders. Just as the requirement of fuel was 60% of what was needed to take back the ground in World War 2, easily 60% of the work of the Church would be in the area of Mental restoration in some form.
