The present study deals with the investigation of contributions of LIS (library and information science) teachers towards their profession in India. Hence, the study was conceived under the title ¿A study on the Contributions of Teachers of Library and Information Science towards the Profession in Indiä. The main purpose of the study is to identify the academic and research contributions of LIS teachers in India. The main data source for this study is the quantitative data of contributions of LIS teachers. Data pertaining to a range of contributions such as publications, presentations, authorship in books and book chapters, PhD supervisions, memberships in academic boards, editorship in journals, books and proceedings, minor and major research projects and study materials collected through a questionnaire. For this purpose, researcher has adopted a survey method to collect the required data for the study and has selected all the in service LIS teachers of state and central universities. As of December 2019 there were 353 teachers in 106 state universities and 19 in central universities. A well-structured online questionnaire was distributed among all the in service LIS teachers considered by the study but the response rate is 81.30 % (287 respondents). The study also discussed the satisfaction level of LIS teachers on their overall contributions in the profession. The barriers and needs of LIS teachers were also identified in the study. Further, collected data was categorized into five variables viz designation, gender, experience, types of universities and regions of UGC for analysis and interpretation
