The carriage that takes us to our hotel winds up and up the hilly roads till we reach a sort of main street, and we begin to think we have arrived. But presently we stop, a man jumps from the box and fastens some enormous chains to the wheels, and then we start slowly down an almost up and down bit of street, turn sharply to the right, and find ourselves at the door of our hotel. No impression can be formed of where we are situated, and after dinner we retire, to wait for the morning light. What a scene then lies before us!
