War is by far the most traumatic 'life' event' any human can experience. In this book, the soldiers, sailors and airmen recollections allow the reader to go through the devastating combination of danger, uncertainty, horror and occasional black humour with them. How did they behave under extreme conditions of physical and psychological hardships of combat and how did they react when they returned home to a normal life? Some wrote of their experiences in books. Some wrote memoirs that once completed, were destined never to see the light of day as they were left in a cupboard, in an old suitcase or in a drawer somewhere. Their memoirs/diaries, loose leaf sheets of paper forgotten or dependent on the interest or the lack of interest by relatives, family or friends. Sadly, a great many left no record and simply wanted to forget. Whatever they could have said, their part of a nations history will be lost as the old warriors pass away. Their contribution will have been lost forever. Testimony of War is a four book series of stories intended to be not just a personal collection of war stories but more a treasure trove of history and a tribute to all past serving personnel. Interspersed with the memoirs are descriptions of many battles, some little known. They are there to not only educate the reader but to add variety so the reader hopefully will be wondering with anticipation what the next story is about. The stories range mainly from World War One to World War but occasionally stray just outside this time frame.
