The Aeneids of Virgil - Done Into English Verse

Angebote / Angebote:

This antiquarian volume contains Virgil's "The Aeneid", translated from the original Latin into English by William Morris. It is an epic Latin poem written between 29 and 19 BCE, that tells the story of Aeneas, a Trojan who became the ancestor of the Romans, after travelling to Italy. The poem is composed of 9, 896 lines written in dactylic hexameter, and delineates Aeneas's wanderings from Troy to Italy, and the Trojans' war against the Latins. This classic text would make for a worthy addition to any bookshelf, and is not to be missed by collectors of important antiquarian literature. The chapters include: "Aeneas and His Trojans Being Driven to Libya by a Tempest, Have Good Welcome of Dido, Queen of Carthage", "Aeneas Telleth to Dido and the Tyrians the Story of Troy's Overthrow", "Aeneas Tells of his Wanderings and Mishaps by Land and by Sea", etcetera. This English translation was first published in 1910, and is being republished now in an affordable, modern edition - complete with a specially commissioned new biography of the author.
