And yet it would be a sad state of affairs if we were to allow our dejection to degenerate into hopelessness. And so, while it may take a rare degree of courage to forget the dis appointments so fresh in our memory, we greet the New Year with a hope based, if on nothing more, the maxim that it is always darkest before the dawn.
