Excerpt from The Biblical Repertory, Vol. 9: October, 1837The assembly of bishops in 1682 was called by the king. The declaration referred to was confirmed by an edict of the king. It was attacked by the theologians of the times who were imbued with the doctrine of the pope's infallibility. Thomas de Rocabuti published in 1693 three volumes in folio, to establish doctrines contrary to these four articles, and afterwards collected and published in twenty-one volumes, folio, works having the same object, which had been written by others. The parliament of Paris in 1695, forbade the sale of this work. The king of France appointed the celebrated Bossuet to refute this author and his partisans, and to defend the four articles.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
