Excerpt from The Buckling of a Thick Circular Plate Using a Non-Linear Theory
The Object of this paper is to study the stability of equilibrium of an isotropic circular cylinder when compressed along its curved lateral surface. The compression on the curved part Of the boundary is assumed to be such that the generators of the cylinder remain Vertical straight lines, but so that no shear stress is developed: it is as though the cylinder were compressed by shrinking a very stiff greased ring down on it. The plane faces are assumed to be free of stress.
