Excerpt from The Constables' Accounts, Vol. 2: Of the Manor of Manchester, From the Year 1612 to the Year 1647, and From the Year 1743 to the Year 1776, From the Year 1633 to 1647, With Several Important Appendices
The remainder of the Appendices is taken up with long lists of the inhabitants of Manchester in 1651, 1659, and 1666, which will, I think, be found of service to the genealogical and antiquarian student, as they supply the names of the chief inhabitants of the town at those dates, which it would not be possible to get in any other way. Although these assessments are separated by so few years, yet the lists of names differ more than might have been expected. The lists of out burgesses, or those holding lands within the town but not residing there, are both interesting and important.
