The Corner Room: Stories from a Children's Hospital - To Inspire, Heal and Affirm

Angebote / Angebote:

James Powell worked as the chaplain in a children's hospital and pediatric oncology clinic in Texas for almost twenty years. The Corner Room is a collection of essays that explore his experiences there. These illuminating essays illustrate children, their families, and hospital staff encountering the dilemmas of illness, trauma, separation, and sometimes death with love, grace, and the invincible power of the human spirit. "THE CORNER ROOM will give solace and encouragement to children and parents alike, whatever the trials they are facing, and it will do so without offering pat answers, but rather, in a manner provoking thought and wonder. It is insightful, richly spiritual, personal and moving. Powell has shown how one's own experiences impact the clinical setting and how that may provide profound growth opportunities for the patient as well as the clinician." Mark W. Johnson, M.D. "James Powell truly brings these children and their parents to life. His keen observations transported me into the time and feelings generated by the situations those children were experiencing. I had to stop along the way to process each person and his or her story, and each made such a lasting impression. The spirit in each of these children soars." Lori Snow, Ph.D., Child Psychologist, Executive Director and Founder, Rainbow Adoptions International, Inc. James Powell was the first pediatric chaplain at Methodist children's Hospital in Lubbock, Texas, where he provided spiritual care to the children, their parents and families, and the hospital staff. He has worked with children and adolescents as chaplain in a state hospital, campus director in a children's home, pastoral counselor in private practice, and as youth minister in a number of parish settings. His own diagnosis with a chronic disease as a child shaped his personal identity, his career path, and his approach to working with those in vulnerable medical situations. He and his wife, Dianne, have been married 44 years. They have two grown sons and two grandsons and live in Lubbock.
