Gerhart Hauptmann (1862-1946) was a German dramatist and novelist who received the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1912, best known for his 1892 play, The Weavers (Die Weber) which sympathetically portrays a group of Silesian weavers who staged an uprising during the 1840s due to their concerns about the Industrial Revolution. This volume contains Commemoration Masque (Festspiel in deutschen Reimen), The Bow of Odysseus (Der Bogen des Odysseus), Elga, and Fragments Helios and Pastoral (Das Hirtenlied).
