In the autumn of 1907 he fell seriously ill - the result of a chill caught during the visit of the Grand Duke and Grand Duchess Vladimir of Russia to Schonbrunn - and the prospect of the accession of Francis Ferdinand, with his federal ideas, was disturbing.
