With bruised feet and aching head
"I lay me down and die,
"For I am weary of my life,
"And thankful here to lie.
"More weary than the ailing child

"Than bird with wounded crest.
"Life's pilgrimage is ended here,
"In the lone wilderness,
"And none for me will shed a tear
"Or have a joy the less.
