Excerpt from The Free Will Baptist, Vol. 58: A National Weekly Religious Magazine, January 6, 1943 When the annunciation of the birth of the promised Saviour was made by the angel to the shepherds on the J udean Hills, a group of hum ble Jewish people who believed God, and who had embraced the promises and prophecies of the coming King of kings, it was the signal for a great celebration. These shepherds were told, Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger - meaning that 'they must go and seek in order to find. When they had heard the message of the angel they went and found the child, and then on the part of [the human side began the celebration that forms the basis for the celebra tion of the birth of Christ as a Holy Day by the Christian world. Whatever else might be said about this first celebration of Christmas, it can all be summed up in the follow ing: They heard, believed, obeyed, received, testified, rejoiced, and praised God. On that Day of all days for the shepherds they received the Saviour, and therefore, they had something about which to testify as well as to rejoice and shout and praise God.
