In discharge of this duty I undertook the delivery of the following lectures on the Friday evenings in Lent this year. My object was to put before my audience the results of Biblical Criticism, so far as they are accepted by our best English scholars. The authorities I have mainly followed are Bishops Lightfoot and Westcott, Dr Salmon, the present Dean of Westminster, Professor Sanday, Professor Swete, Professor Ramsay, Dr Plummer, Professor Burkitt, and Mr Kenyon. These lectures are to a great extent an expansion of the Introduction to my Life of Christ published by Mr Murray.
