Excerpt from The Mineral Economics of the Carbonate Rocks
In carbonate rock analyses, the emphasis is on these two elements. The amount of cao in usable lime stones ranges from 40 percent in impure limestone to 56 percent in ure limestone. In these high concentra tions, it is irre evant to know for preliminary purposes the C30 content more accurately than from to percent, an accuracy that is generally achieved. Most dolomites have an mgo content in the range of 15-21 percent, which is acceptable for some purposes. For such samples, again, the accuracy of i1 percent gen erally achieved is satisfactory.
For many industrial purposes, however, a very low content of mgo is mandatory. Therefore, an mgo content of 5 percent or less should be looked at eriti cally, and the questions asked should include: How representative is the sample? How accurate is the anal ysis? Is the mgo total content indicated or only that portion derived from the soluble carbonates?
