In the pages of "The Music of Bees, " Gwendolynn Smith Patterson's poetry portrays the struggle of finding a spiritual path while working toward acceptance of living with a bipolar disorder and its cycles. In 2001, a car accident left her with a head injury and in the same year she received a bipolar diagnosis, a mercurial roller coaster.
