Excerpt from The Origin of the E-Layer of the IonosphereThe purpose of the present work is to examine these theories of the E and F1 layers by making a quantitative calculation of the electron densities resulting from the photo-ionization of molecular and atomic oxygen, on the basis of the recent work of Moses and Wu[7] on the distributions of 02 and of 0 in and above the oxygen dissociation layer.
