Excerpt from The Parish Registers of Kirkburton, Co, York, Vol. 1
The work of writing out the Registers of a populous parish for two hundred years has been greatly lightened by the kind sympathy and encouragement of many friends who have, themselves, done similar work, or who take an interest in the preservation of historical records. To John Sykes, Esq., of Doncaster, most grateful thanks are given by "another pupil, " for the advice and information which would, otherwise, have been unattainable. By the kindness of his Grace the Lord Archbishop of York, and of H. A. Hudson, Esq., a search was made in the Registry Office at York, and thereby, more than three thousand fresh entries were obtained, to make the whole work more perfect and reliable. To Mr. John Dickons, Head Clerk of the office, many thanks are due for his unfailing courtesy and attention during the three weeks' time of search. To all who have kindly helped her, in any way, in the work, grateful acknowledgments are tendered by Frances Anne Collins.
