Excerpt from The Review of Insanity and Nervous Diseases, 1890-1891, Vol. 1: A Quarterly Compendium of the Current Literature of Neurology and PsychiatryFerrier is inclined to the view that the forms of tactile and common sen sation are localized in the falciform lobe, and it is possible that common sensibility, may to some extent, be bilaterally represented, So that the destruction of one lobe may be compensated for by the other. He con siders, however, that this question requires further investigation. The olfactory sense is probably located In the hippo-campel lobe. He gives the usual localization for the motor centres and combats Dr. Bastion's view that the so-called motor centres are in reality sensory centres that excite the true motor centres in the spinal cord through the pyramidal tracts. He concludes that the motor centres of the cortex are not the centres of tactile or general sensibility, nor are they the centres of the muscular sense. In regard to the function of the frontal centres there is still some obscurity.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
