Excerpt from The So-Called Peters-Hilprecht Controversy, Vol. 1: Proceedings of the Committee Appointed by the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania to Act as a Court of Inquiry
In the October number, 1907, of The American Journal of Semitic Languages and Literatures was published a letter of April 18, 1906, addressed to me by sixteen American Orientalists, together with my reply of April 27, and an introductory note by Prof. Charles R. Lanman and at a meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature and Exegesis, held in Philadelphia, December 30-31, 1907, a resolution was passed voicing a similar sentiment and desire as that expressed in the letter of the sixteen Orientalists just referred to (cf. Part II).
Immediately after the receipt of an official copy of the latter I addressed the Board of Trustees of the University of Pennsylvania as follows.
