Excerpt from The Spanish Elizabethans: The English Exiles at the Court of Philip III am deeply indebted to my mentors at University Col lege, London, Sir John Neale, and his present successor as Astor Professor of History, Mr. ]oel Hurstfleld for their in, valuable guidance in Elizabethan research. I am also grateful to the late Canon Edwin Henson, Rector of St. Alban's in Valladolid, who graciously provided access to that college's archive. Don Ricardo Magdaleno and his Skilled Staff at Simancas were most kind in guiding my investigation in that great depository of Spanish Hapsburg documents. At Stonyf hurst College, the Librarian, Fr. Hubert Chadwick, was most helpful in making manuscript material available. No less important was the assistance I received at the Archivio Sef gredo di Vaticano and the Archivum Romanum Societatis Jew, and from the Reverend Archivist at Westminster Ca thedral in London. I am especially grateful to Dr. Louis B. Wright for the grant of a summer Fellowship at the Folger Library where I had an opportunity to do additional reading and research. While residing at Farm Street, London, my fellow ]esuits, Fr. Leo Hicks and Fr. Bazil Fitzgibbon, were particularly generous in Sharing the results of their Study of recusant history. Fr. Edwin A. Quain, Director of the F orda ham University Press, has made many helpful comments for the final manuscript. However, for the mistakes that have eluded the vigilance of my friends I alone am responsible.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
