Excerpt from The Statute of Evidence, 1864: With Notes, and an Appendix In this little work I have not attempted to touch upon the general principles of the Law of Evidence, these form one of the most extensive and difficult branches of law, upon which there are many large and well-known English text books. The reason why I have prepared this compilation, and the purpose for which it is intended, are as follows: - I had already prepared and written a considerable part of a work on the Common Law Procedure Acts of 1865 (similar in plan to this one) when I found that, in order to render it complete as a guide for practice, it would be necessary to incorporate with it "The Statute of Evidence, 1864, " or to prepare a separate work upon it, as a companion volume.
