HE following pages are the full text, with additions, of a series of three Lectures on the Structure of the Cotton Fibre in its relation to Technical Applications, delivered at the request of the Council of the Bradford Technical School, before the members of the Institution in the Large Lecture Theatre of the Mechanics' Institute in that town during the Spring of 1880. I was requested to allow them to be published at the time of their delivery, but deferred doing so in the hope that I might be enabled to extend my investigations to the structure of wool as well as cotton, and thus render the work a resume' of our knowledge of the mixed fibres, which have played so large a part in the production of what are known throughout the world as Bradford goods.
