Excerpt from The Sun
At Multan, in the Punjab, was at one time a temple erect ed to the sun, which was the most celebrated in India. To this day the sun fills a large space in the prayers of the Hindus. In one of India's sacred books (manu, iii, 75, 76) we find this sentiment: By sacrifice the house master sus tains this movable and immovable world. Cast into the fire the offering goes into the sun, from the sun is produced the rain, from the rain the nourishment, from the latter the creatures are produced.
