Excerpt from The the Second and Third Epistles of John The Muratorian canon, probably of the second century, quotes from the First Epistle of John and afterwards speaks of two epistles of John. The reference is probably to I. And though it may be to II. And III. Irenaeus, near the close of the second century, quotes II. 7, 8, and refers the passage to the first epistle. (adv. Haer., iii. 16, Again, he cites II. 10, 11 as the words of John, the disciple of the Lord. (id. I. 16, Clement, of Alexandria, about the same time, refers to the larger Epistle of John. (strom. Ii.
