Founder and president of the Vermont Historical Society into whose capacious hopper old traditions, stories, facts, records, letters, documents seemed to ¿ow like brooks into the Passumpsic. More than original letters and manuscripts were said to be in his possession, includ ing the secret correspondence of the Continental Congress, letters of Ira and Ethan Allen, of Dr. Arnold, of St. John de Crevecoeur, and others.
