The Trials of a Country Editor, Vol. 6 (Classic Reprint)

The Trials of a Country Editor Vol 6. is just one part of an epic and grossly engaging play written by Thomas F. Anderson. This volume acts as a stand-alone dramatic piece, perfect for individual consumption, but would also relate to the other volumes if one were to perform them as a compilation on stage. Many characters throughout the work are recurring and should be cast with the same actors and actresses for performance if at all possible. This section of the play would take approximately one hour to perform and would require modern costumes as the play does not suggest a specific time period in its setting. Anderson's play offers an interesting look into American life and the trials and tribulations of the editor of a country newspaper. Entertaining from the beginning, Anderson manages to evoke humor in every aspect of his work, even in the naming of the characters! The main character, editor of the local paper "The Boomer" is named "X. Change", his reporter is named "A. Hustler" and the newspaper foreman is named "Mr. Makeup". Even the secondary characters offer comedic moments: the local woman-in-politics Mrs. Sweethome (who advocates a stance anti-suffragist position), and the office cat, Jimblayne who watches lazily as the rest of the cast dance around one another in hilarious chaos. The Trials of a Country Editor Vol 6. is an entertaining and comedic play which artfully hones in on the satire in the daily aspects of American life. Anderson's ability to write an engaging and thought provoking play shines in this volume, but to really appreciate the genius and level of craftsmanship, all of the volumes should be read in order. This is an interesting read for anyone intrigued by American theater, students of drama, or individuals who enjoy reading comedy and satire.
