About a mile from the town, towards the west, and on the gentle and verdant hill that rises from the shores of Mount's Bay, stood, in the year 179 -, the handsome mansion of Captain Barlow, a distinguished naval officer. He was not at this period employed, though England had just then commenced her long and sanguinary war with revolutionary France.
