Excerpt from Thermostatic Temperature Control for Gas Engine Jacket Water: A ThesisDuring the course of years of gas engine engine testing at the Armour Institute of Technology, need was found for some device to automatically7 control the jacket water temperature of the engine under test. Heretofore, the temperature was manually controlled, by varying the amount of cold water supplied to the engine. By installing thermostatic control of the water, one of the manual adjustments was done away with, which meant that more time could be given to the many other adjustments and readings that were necessary.
