It has been my lot to be associated with him in several missions. I have also had the privilege of occasionally receiving him into my house as a welcome guest. The result has been, that a somewhat close intimacy has sprung up between Mr. Cook and myself, and during recent years we have been in the habit of conversing together in private about the subjects in which we are both profoundly interested, and which are treated upon in the following pages. The idea of my writing an account of Mr. Cook's early ministry did not first occur to me, but when it was suggested, I was, for several reasons, not unwilling to entertain it.
