Jonathan had stumbled upon a stash of food. It had been days since his and Jacqueline's last meal. He had no idea neither did he stop to think that the storage of food belonged to a barn owl. Once he grabbed the piece of dried apple it was too late. He was spotted.Barn owls were dreadful looking creatures to mice. Their heads bobbled and weaved back and forth appearing to be totally disconnected from their body. Their large dark eyes seem to pierce through you. They're quick! Once they spot you it's over, they hardly ever miss their target, even in total darkness.Jonathan made a dash for it. He ran because he knew his life depended on it. He skipped the ladder all together leaping from the loft to the barn floor. He landed with a thud dropping the apple which was too big to carry any longer.
