Tokiwa

Angebote / Angebote:

Excerpt from Tokiwa: And Other PoemsArgument. - In a.d. 1159 there was war in Japan between two great feudal clans, the Hei or T aira, whose banners were red, and the Gen or Minamoto, whose banners were white. Yoshitomo, the Gen chief, was defeated and slain, and his three little sons escaped with their mother Tokiwa, the fairest woman in Japan. Availing himself of the Japanese belief that any deed done for a parent's sake is justifiable, ikiyomori, the victorious Hei chief, got his rival's sons into his power, and then, by equally cruel stratagem, used her maternal love to get possession of Tokiwa herself. Her youngest son, Ushiwaka or Yoshitsune, afterwards became the great national hero and first Shogun of Japan.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
