Thirteen-year-old Barbara and her sister Livvy, live with their alcoholic father and grandmother. When Livvy meets the exotic Cosmo, who teaches a clown workshop for teens, he invites Barbara to participate. Barbara discovers Cosmo has AIDS, and when her father reacts violently to her joining the workshop, she flees to Cosmo for help.
