There was not even any distinct anaesthesia in the skin area supplied by the intercostal nerves implicated, the patient was, however, when tested, too languid to appreciate small differences in sensibility. The phrenic nerve was undisturbed, the right half of the diaphragm acted perfectly in deep inspiration. Examination of the lung was difficult and imperfect, there was 110 cough or other marked symptom pulse 80, respirations 24. There was no distension of superficial veins, no enlarge ment of liver, no ascites, and no oedema.I at first surmised that an aneurysm originating just beyond the pericardial line on the outer side of the aorta had insinuated itself between the upper and middle lobes of the right lung, and in its growth had separated them.
