Excerpt from Transactions of the Cumberland and Westmorland Antiquarian and Archeological Society, Vol. 4HE twenty-third volume of Bishop Nicolson's diaries opens with a memorandum of his return from London to Rose in an ill state of health, April 3rd, 1707. For some time it contains little but a short record of his necessary daily business and the persons who came to see him, with notes concerning his health and the remedies prescribed. A few extracts containing the more interesting matters are given. But the importance of the volume increases as we come to the disputes between Dean Atterbury, with his adherent Dr. Todd, and the Bishop, supported by the other members of the Chapter.6 The result was the Act of Parliament by which the validity of the statutes of all the Cathedrals Of the New Foundation was established. These are Canterbury, Durham, Carlisle, Ely, Norwich, Rochester, Winchester, and Worcester. On that subject, therefore, fuller extracts are given.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
