In the Pacific Ocean off Canada's west coast, Kate Keller's sailboat, the Waterworld, inexplicably disintegrates, leaving her clinging to the mast for her life. This catastrophe was caused by a an out-of control cocktail of bacteria engineered to rid the oceans of plastic.
