Excerpt from Turning Points: A Memoir of My Life From 1933 to 1944 As I look back, it seems to me I've been preparing this memoir most of my life. When I was sixteen years old, I got my first camera, a Kodak Brownie proba bly my high school graduation present. That was in June 1932. I started a photo album although I couldn't afford to take many pictures at the time. However, as the years rolled by and my income grew, I never stopped adding to it. Now let's fast-forward to 1973, when I visited my daughter, Deborah in Kyoto, Japan. She was going to Friends World College there, studying Japanese art and culture.
