A poem on the events surrounding two of the members of Captain Scott's ill-fated yet pivotal and ground-breaking Terra Nova Polar expedition of 1910-13: 'the Owner' and leader himself, Captain Robert Falcon Scott, and the introvert yet kindhearted army officer, Captain Lawrence E.G. Oates. Two very different men whose sacrifice and courage in the face of death still speak volumes to us - not because they died as heroes, but because they did not think they were acting heroically: they took their own courage for granted, as they did their fear. And that is what to this day still makes them feel so near and real to us.
