Excerpt from Water Supply for IrrigationThe total area upon which crops were raised by irrigation was, accord ing to the results obtained by the Eleventh Census, acres, or square miles. This applies to the year ending May 31, 1890, the census being taken during the following June. Comparing this area with the total land surface west of the one hundredth meridian, it is found to be approximately only four-tenths of 1 per cent.
